What is an SSL certificate?
An SSL certificate (SSL/TLS) encrypts the data sent between a visitor’s browser and your website, so your address uses https:// and shows a padlock icon. Browsers mark sites without HTTPS as “Not secure”, so SSL also builds visitor trust.
What is the difference between DV, OV, and EV?
DV (Domain Validation) confirms that you control the domain, and the certificate is issued within minutes. With OV (Organization Validation), the CA also verifies your company details and the company name appears in the certificate, with an estimate of 1–3 business days once your documents are complete. EV (Extended Validation) is the strictest check of your company’s legal status and existence, with an estimate of 1–5 business days once your documents are complete.
When do I need a Wildcard certificate?
Choose Wildcard when you want to secure your main domain and all first-level subdomains, such as shop.yourdomain.com, mail.yourdomain.com, and app.yourdomain.com, with one certificate. Domain validation is done by email or DNS.
What do I need to prepare?
For validation, you need access to the domain’s admin email address or its DNS settings (or an HTTP file upload for non-wildcard DV certificates). A CSR is optional: if you do not have one yet, the NEX team will help. For OV and EV, also prepare your company details and legal documents. Once the certificate is issued, the NEX team sends you the certificate files.
How long is a certificate valid?
SSL plans are billed yearly. Since March 2026, industry rules (CA/Browser Forum) limit each certificate to a maximum validity of 200 days, so the certificate is reissued during a one-year subscription. The NEX team helps with the process.
My hosting already includes free SSL. Do I still need to buy one?
NEX hosting already includes a Let’s Encrypt (DV) SSL certificate for basic encryption. Choose a paid certificate when you need your company identity in the certificate (OV/EV), a wildcard certificate, or a certificate from a commercial CA such as Sectigo or GeoTrust.
Do prices include VAT?
No. Plan prices on this page exclude 11% VAT (PPN), which is added at checkout in the customer portal.
